Hygienist

Hygiene visits are vital to the prevention of tooth decay and gum disease.

We can’t over emphasise the importance of visiting the hygienist regularly. Your hygienist can help prevent gum disease and tooth decay, the two major causes of tooth loss.

At Orchard Dental Practice we can offer you the services of a Dental Hygienist, they work closely with your dentist to provide care tailored to your needs. Our hygienist has been specially trained to carry out scaling and polishing and can spend longer with you than the dentist. Regular visits and advice will help build your confidence in maintaining your oral health which will improve your appearance, help you to keep your teeth healthy and give you fresh breath.

In addition the hygienist will assess how well you are caring for your teeth and if need be will help you improve your brushing and flossing techniques or show you how to tackle any difficult areas.

Our hygienists will also advise on such problems as bleeding gums or bad breath and will introduce you to a programme that will cure it.

They can also offer you advice on the best oral hygiene products for your needs.

The hygienist’s role

Hygienists are key members of the practices’ team. We all know the saying “Prevention is better than cure” and the hygienist plays a very important role in this prevention. Professional plaque removal and excellent home care is crucial to the prevention and treatment of gum disease and the problems it causes, which are caused solely by the build up of dental plaque.

Plaque itself is soft and will come off with a brush, but often it is missed because of imperfect cleaning techniques. When the plaque matures after some weeks it becomes a solid, hard deposit called calculus which sticks to the teeth pushing its ways into the gums. Which leads to gum problems developing. The hygienist will help you to address this. She will also discuss any dietary issues which may be contributing to dental decay.

It is our experience that patients who previously suffered problems with decay, often experience far less decay subsequently when under regular hygienist care.

Our Hygienist can help with:

Tooth Decay Detection

Detect early decay and prevent unnecessary discomfort, we can detect any unseen problems your teeth may have, saving you pain and reducing the risk of loosing teeth.

Noticing an unusual sensitivity to eating hot or cold food in a tooth is often the first sign of tooth decay, or a leaky filling. Both gum disease and tooth decay are caused by plaque, a film of bacteria on your teeth. Daily brushing helps prevent plaque, but it is essential you visit the hygienist regularly to have any plaque build-ups removed professionally.

Tooth Stain Removal

For a great looking smile, we provide with all of our hygiene sessions, high quality stain removal techniques to painlessly remove any staining and at the same time preserve enamel.

Teeth and gum care

With proper care, your teeth and gums can stay healthy throughout your life. The healthier your teeth and gums are, the less risk you have of tooth decay and gum disease.

Gum Disease Treatment

Gum disease can go unnoticed; we provide treatment of swelling, bleeding, soreness, infection of the gums, and bad breath. We will help you keep your gums healthy so you can smile with confidence again!

Fresh Breath Treatment

Our fresh breath clinic is a unique treatment for the effective elimination of bad breath and associated problems. With a combination of hygiene therapies and specially formulated products we are able to combat this embarrassing problem. Bad breath, morning breath, breath odour or halitosis is all terms used to describe a noticeably unpleasant odour exhaled on the breath. Halitosis is not a problem itself, but it can cause concerns in our interpersonal relationships.
